SAQ in Sweden Receives More than 300 Reports on Alexanderson Day, July 1

SAQ, the old Alexanderson alternator transmitter at the World Heritage Grimeton Radio Station in Sweden, received 321 listener reports in response to its three 17.2 kHz transmissions on Alexanderson Day, July 1.

Former Wisconsin Section Manager Don Michalski, W9IXG, SK

Former Wisconsin ARRL Section Manager Don Michalski, W9IXG, of Madison, died on August 11. He was 77.

Michalski led the Wisconsin Section from 1999 until 2015. He served as net manager for the Badger Weather Net and was active in the Wisconsin Badger Amateur Radio Society (W9YT) at the University of Wisconsin. Robert S. “Bob” Morris, W4MYA, of Goochland, Virginia, died on August 14. An ARRL Life Member, he was 72. Morris had been suffering from cancer but remained active on the air until very recently. He was sometimes called “Dude” within the contesting community for one of his favorite expressions, “Run ’em, dude.”

New FCC Part 95 Personal Radio Services Rules Published in The Federal Register

Reorganized and updated FCC Personal Radio Services (PRS) Part 95 rules have been published in The Federal Register. Among other things, the PRS covers the Family Radio Service (FRS), General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS), and the Citizens Band Radio Service (CBRS).

Texas Volunteer Examiner Setting Sights on Next 1,000 Exam Sessions

Indonesian Hams Take Advantage of Satellite for Post-Earthquake Communication

Amateur Radio volunteers in Indonesia have been taking advantage of the LAPAN-ORARI (IO-86) ham satellite in addition to HF on 7.110 MHz as the Lombok area recovers from two recent earthquakes.
